Rules And Regulations

1. This competition is for professional and amateur violinists and is open to Indian nationals, to persons of Indian origin and to foreigners domiciled in India for more than 5 years.

2. There is no upper or lower age limits. However, in case of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the older participant. First prize winner of the previous David Menezes All India Violin competition will not take part in this Violin competition 2014.

3. The application form must be completed in all respects, duly signed and sent by registered mail or hand delivered by the same date to the following address: 1st floor, CMM Bldg. 4.There is no registration fee for this Competition.

5. Applicants choosing any piece by a 20th or 21st century composer will have to submit a copy of the score for the perusal of the jury at the time of submitting their application.

6. For the purpose of selecting candidates, applicants have to submit:
a) A copy of certificate of at least grade 8 violin practical exam and/or a letter from their teacher certifying that the candidate is a grade 8 level student or above.
b) Resume of the applicant.
c) Photograph of the participant (Passport size)

7. A maximum of 20 candidates will be selected from all the applicants; the criteria will be certificates and/or video/audio recordings. Your selection will be confirmed by email

Competition Dates

The competition will be held over 2 days:.
25th November 2014 : Preliminary round
26th November 2014 : Final round.
The competition will be held at the Menezes Braganza hall in Panaji, Goa.

Competition Format

The competition will be organized as follows:

First preliminary round: Candidates will play any piece/pieces of their choice for upto a maximum of six minutes. Each participant will have to show his/her identification documents to the organizers before being allowed to play. The participants will play in alphabetical order of their surnames from the starting letter drawn on the first day of the competition.

Final: 5 candidates will be selected to play in this final round, which will be a public concert. Each finalist will play a programme (including a brief spoken introduction about the pieces played) for upto 16 minutes of stage time.

Accompanist

The candidates are requested to make arrangements for their accompanist. In case of difficulty, please let us know so that we can arrange a corepetitor (piano accompanist) to accompany you.

Hospitality

The organizer will provide accommodation at a discounted price to candidates from outside Goa and to their accompanist, during the period of their participation in the competition (25th and 26th Nov.). The participants are to inform the organizers if immediate family/ friends will be accompanying them. Those who want to participate in the whole festival and avail of master classes and instruction from eminent professors and performers from Germany and Belgium may inform us in advance.

Prizes

The first prize will not be awarded if the best performance falls below certain minimum standards to be decided by the jury.
1st Place: Rs. 50000
2nd Place: Rs. 30000
3 Consolation Prizes: Rs. 5000 each.

Jury

The jury consists of renowned artists from Germany and Belgium under the chairmanship of Prof. Ulf Klausenitzer, Music University of Nuernberg, Germany.
The jury's decision on any issue linked to the competition will be final and binding on the candidates. No protest or correspondence of any kind will be entertained regarding the decisions of the jury. .

Cancellation Of The Competition

The competition may be cancelled for imperative reasons in which case all applicants will be informed in advance.

Recording Rights

The organizers have the sole right to record (on audio or video) the competition and the final public concert; and to allow radio and TV broadcasting or the publication of the performance. The participants of the competition will not receive any reward and cannot claim any copyright for their performance in the competition. All other rights are reserved by the organizers.
